Scrap Processors Inc.
FAMILY OWNED
SINCE 1948
1948
With only a pick-up truck, Texas-native Myer “Mike” Silverstein began to collect and sell scrap metal. While cruising through Webster City on the hunt for metal, he saw his opportunity. He bought some land and set-up shop, Webster City Iron & Metal Co.
1951
Through the years, Mike acquires additional property. In 1951, he relocates the business to what is now Scrap Processors, Inc. (SPI), at 505 Seneca Street in Webster City, Iowa.
1961
Mike’s sons, Ben and Kenny, join the team. Together they expand the company to include not just scrap yards, but auto parts and convenience stores, too — all located in Central Iowa.
1978
SPI celebrates 30 years of serving Central Iowa’s scrap- metal-recycling needs.
1985
In the wake of both Mike and Kenny’s retirements, Ben shifts SPI’s focus back to scrap-metal processing and recycling.
